A SHIBAYAMA LACQUER COVERED VASE
Meiji period
The hexagonal globular shaped body with six recessed kinji panels with colored shell and wood inlays depicting birds amongst foliage and floral vases within silver rims and against a hiramakie and togidashi gold ground decorated with chrysanthemum crests and birds on fretted, diapered or honeycomb grounds, the shoulder and base mounted with shaped silver collars enameled with confronting birds, the vessel raised on six cabriole shaped silver feet, surmounted by a domed lid with further makie decoration and a silver mythical beast finial
