TWO LACQUER ACCESSORY BOXES (TEBAKO)
Edo period (the first late 17th-early 18th century, the second 18th century), the first sealed shiomi masanari [shiomi masanari (1647-1722)]
Of rectangular sections with rounded corners, the first fitted with an overhanging cover arched above the gilt-copper cord rings on two sides, decorated in gold hiramaki-e, low-relief takamaki-e, kimpun and okibirame with a landscape of pines, oranges, rock, hillocks and a stream on a ground of dense nashiji, the interior roiro and nashiji; the second, decorated on the cover in gold hiramaki-e and low relief takamaki-e with a stand of chrysanthemums and small plants against a dense nashiji ground continued on the side of the box, the interior of the case roiro-nuri with sprays of flowering grasses in gold hiramaki-e, fitted with gilt-metal cord rings cast with paulownia medallions
