TWO LACQUER INCENSE TRAYS
Edo and Meiji periods, (19th Century)
The first late 19th century and of rectangular shape with canted corners decorated in iro-e togidashi with a large roundel of two immortals and an oni reading a scroll surrounded by a border of gold lacquer, the slanted edges also gold lacquer of floral latticework and peonies in low relief, signed to the lower left of the roundel in gold lacquer Kako and sealed in red lacquer Kobayashi, the base of the tray nashiji and the rims mounted in silver; the second tray mid 19th century and square with slightly recessed square well, patterned in gold and silver hiramaki-e and nashiji with two hollyhock crests (aoi-mon) and ivy, which is continued on the underside, the ground overall roiro-nuri
