1953 LANCHESTER LJ200 14HP SALOON
Registration No. NRU 830
Chassis No. L6 7839
Engine No. 35250
Dark green with green leather upholstery
Engine: four cylinder in-line, overhead valve, 1,968cc, 60bph at 4,200rpm; Gearbox: four speed pre-selector manual; Brakes: girling hydromechanical, front/rear drum; Suspension: front, independent torsion bar, rear, rigid axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs. Right hand drive.
Following the Second World War Lanchester produced just the 10hp car, but in 1950 they reintroduced a 14hp model. The pre-war 'small six' 1,809cc engine gave way to a 1,968cc 'big four' which produced 60hp and gave useful performance with plenty of passenger and luggage space allied to traditional Daimler refinement. As with other Daimler products they used a fluid flywheel and Wilson pre-selector gearbox but was found to be expensive and probably accounted for their demise.
Survivors are rare and this example has had three owners from new and has always resided in the Bournemouth area. The first Lady owner kept the car for 7 years, the second for 16 years and the present for 19 years. The mileage of 89,300 is said to be genuine and at some stage a replacement engine was fitted. It is in extremely original running condition and comes with a current MoT certificate. Work in recent years includes a water pump overhaul, new hoses and heater pipes, renewed fuel tank and fuel lines and a recent brake overhaul. Paintwork is a little poor now and the car would benefit from a respray, there is a dent in the rear near side wing. The interior is highly original with nicely aged green leather upholstery, although the woodwork would benefit from re-varnishing. Generally this Lanchester seems very original and will reward a little sympathetic renovation. Accompanying the vehicle are the original log book, tools, handbook and hub caps.
NO RESERVE.
