In 1932 the British operations of Ford transferred from Manchester to Dagenham, Essex where it has remained ever since. When the factory had turned around and recovered from the war years, Ford moved away from the old fashioned image of the perpendicular Ford with two new models, the Consul and Zephyr which had up to the minute styling of transatlantic inspiration, comfortably sprung and fast. These were followed by the Zodiac, Anglia and Prefect and eventually the Popular. The New Popular was introduced in 1959 with an increased bhp to 36 at 4,500rpm.
This unrestored example was used by one owner from 1959 to 1977 and has covered 75,472 miles from new. It has been garaged since 1977 and unused owing to the current owner being abroad. It does not have a battery and clearly will need work before becoming roadworthy again.
