THE TRIUMPH STAG CAME OUT OF COVENTRY IN 1970 DEVELOPED FROM A GIOVANNI MICHELOTTI STYLING EXERCISE BASED ON A TRIUMPH 2000 INTENDED FOR THE TURIN MOTOR SHOW. THE CAR OFFERED FOUR SEAT PASSENGER ACCOMMODATION AND WAS OFFERED WITH BOTH HARD AND SOFT TOPS. TECHNICALLY THE CAR WAS VERY ADVANCED WITH FEATURES SUCH AS INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION ALL ROUND, SERVO-ASSISTED BRAKES AND POWER STEERING. THE STAG HAS VERY REFINED STYLING WITH A DISTINCTIVE ROLL-OVER BAR AND HARD/SOFT TOP OPTIONS, AND WITH ITS LUXURIOUS EQUIPMENT PERHAPS APPEALED MORE TO THE MATURE DRIVER WHO NO LONGER SOUGHT THE MORE SPARTAN QUALITIES OF SAY THE MORGAN AND YET ENJOYED OPEN TOP MOTORING. THE CAR WAS WIDELY ACCLAIMED WHEN NEW ALTHOUGH SADLY IT FAILED IN THE AMERICAN MARKET WHERE IT DID NOT SLOT INTO A RECOGNISED MARKET SECTOR. IT ALSO HAD AN EARLY REPUTATION FOR MECHANICAL PROBLEMS AND THROUGHOUT THE PRODUCTION IMPROVEMENTS WERE MADE STARTING WITH A MARK II VERSION IN 1973. PRODUCTION EVENTUALLY FINISHED IN JUNE 1977. TODAY THE STAG HAS BECOME A TRUE CLASSIC IN ITS OWN RIGHT AND THOUSANDS OF DEVOTEES AND A THRIVING ENTHUSIASTS CLUB DEMONSTRATE THIS POPULARITY.

THIS PARTICULAR LATE SERIES CAR IS A 1976 MODEL WITH ATTRACTIVE PAINTWORK AND BLACK INTERIOR TRIM. THE CAR WAS REPAINTED IN 1990 AND THE PANELWORK IS IN GOOD, SOUND CONDITION WITH STAINLESS SILL COVERS. THE ENGINE IS THE ORIGINAL THREE LITRE UNIT AND A KENLOW FAN HAS BEEN FITTED TO ASSIST COOLING DURING WARMER WEATHER. THE STAG HAS A WHITE HARDTOP WITH HEATED REAR WINDOW AND THIS IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, WHILST THE BLACK FOLDING SOFT TOP IS VIRTUALLY BRAND NEW. THE INTERIOR UPHOLSTERY IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH NO TEARS OR SCRATCHES AND REFINEMENTS INCLUDE ELECTRIC WINDOWS AND A RADIO CASSETTE SYSTEM WITH ELECTRIC AERIAL. THE RECORDED MILEAGE IS 73,800. THE HISTORY FILE WITH THE CAR INCLUDES A STAG REPAIR OPERATION MANUAL AND HANDBOOK AS WELL AS OLD MOTS FOR THE PAST TEN YEARS AND A CURRENT MOT UNTIL MARCH 1996. THE CAR IS TAXED UNTIL SEPTEMBER.

WITH THE VERSATILITY OF HARD TOP MOTORING IN THE WINTER AND SOFT TOP MOTORING IN THE SUMMER, THESE CARS REMAIN GOOD EXAMPLES OF THE POST-WAR BRITISH CLASSIC.
