In 1968 the XJ series of saloons were introduced with significant technical improvements over the previous saloon and recieved considerable acclaim from the press. The car was awarded every accolade possible from 'Car of the Year' to the 'Don Safety Award', and was the pinnacle of Lyons' achievement. The sophisticated design the press were so taken with provided pre-eminent qualities of ride, handling, comfort and quietness, all packaged in a stylish well balanced modern body. The Daimler versions of the Jaguar 420 unit in 1967 became known as the Sovereign model and in 1969 this name was continued for the new XJ range. The Daimler was always much rarer and recognisable by the fluted radiator grill and Daimler badge and traditionally continued to have highly luxurious interiors similar to the Vanden Plas specification Jaguars.
This 1984 Daimler Sovereign, in regular use, is said to be in good running order and has covered nearly 140,000 miles - at 123,000 miles the bores were honed and pistons re-ringed. The paintwork is described as poor, some corrosion is evident in the wheel arches and the driver's seat is also showing its age. The current MoT expires in April 1996.
NO RESERVE.
