A SILVER TORAH SHIELD, of shaped rectangular form, embossed, chased and applied with two spirally fluted pillars, each surmounted by a spread eagle on a branch, the centre with two rampant lions holding Hebrew inscribed Tablets of the Law, surmounted by a crown applied with a lion's head holding in his mouth a ring, hung with a small bell, fitted below with a compartment for festival plaques with hinged cover and spread eagle finial, containing four double-Hebrew-inscribed plaques, the whole on a trelliswork and quatrefoil ground, surrounded by oak-leaves, acorns, flowers and grapes within a foliate ribbon, hung beneath with three bells, fitted above with a chain, maker's mark E, probably Berlin, first half 19th Century 33.3 cm high (1099 gr)
