A HAND-WOVEN LINEN TORAH BINDER, embroidered mainly in beige and pastel shades of yellow and blue, done in stem-stich, made of four pieces joined by an openwork blanket-stitch, hemmed all-around, the letters elaborately filled-in with birds, flowers, branches, acorns, a rabbit and several geometrical designs, one foot of a mem and a lamed formed in the shape of a human face, the lamed in nolad shaped like an oak-branch, the combination mem-ayin formed as a group of five fish, the scales realistically embroidered, one of the abbreviations in the shape of an entwined snake, a very nice example, some fading of the embroidery, some fill-ins only pencil-marked, the order of the inscription varies from the usual which is not uncommon for a 17th Century binder, a few small holes, some wear, further good condition, probably Germany, 1693,
