Two leaves, 20.5 x 31 cm., engraved headpiece with the coat of arms of Guglielmo de Gonzaga, duke of Mantova and marquis of Monferrato, engraved initial. Good condition. Rare.
During the reign of Guglielmo de Gonzaga Jews were treated relatively well in Mantova; discriminatory regulations were issued only later. This decree states that during Lent Jewish and Christian butchers alike were not allowed to sell any meat, eggs or dairy products to Christians who did not hold an official exemption from fasting by the Holy Chair.
