The society was founded in 1875. Coming from a place called Czechenove, probably in Poland, the members of this community apparently emigrated to England, where this book was written. Members of the society used to pay visits of condolence to families when somebody had passed away, and say prayers for the dead, receiving some kind of grant for the service. They had to pay an anual fee for their membership of the society.
