(1) Beekhuizen was added to the estate Biljoen near Velp by the Van Spaen family in 1770, and created into an 'aardsch paradijs' with woods, brooks and waterfalls which mostly still survive.
Designs for wall decorations showing the same area are offered in the following lot in this sale. Another drawing of the large waterfall at Beekhuizen dated 17 September 1796 is in the Fondation Custodia, Institut Néerlandais, Paris (inv.no. I 2203)
