Probably a preliminary idea for the more finished drawing, one of a series of Four Seasons, in the Hermitage. The Hermitage drawings were engraved, in reverse, by Johannes Sadeler (Hollstein XXII, nos. 503-6, the present drawing is related to no. 505, illustrated p. 149). The present drawing is an unusually spirited and free example of Bol's draughtsmanship
