Lot Essay

Dr. Lucien Boissonnas, in a letter dated April 1995, writes 'A view taken from a well known site and favourite excursion-spot of the artist who went there regularly on his courses de paysage from the beginning of the century. On the hill of Allinges stood two medieval castles, but the place is also renowned for its chapel of Saint François de Sales (1567-1622; the French Bishop in partibus of Geneva who conversed the Savoyard calvinistes) from which this view is approximately taken. The Léman appears at the extreme right and the Voirons mountains form the background to the landscape.'

To be included in Dr. Lucien Boissonnas' forthcoming catalogue raisonné on Töpffer
