Prince Louis-Ferdinand of Prussia with curly brown hair and sideburns, wearing a red-piped blue uniform with red collar, black stock and gold aiguillettes, and a white waist-sash; decorated with the breast-star of the Royal Prussian Order of the Black Eagle and the cross of the Order of the Teutonic Knights; terrace with column and landscape background; oval -- 93 mm high, gilt-metal frame

Lot Essay

Prince Louis-Ferdinand of Prussia, born in 1772, a son of Frederick the Great's younger brother Prince Augustus-Frederick of Prussia, was the elder brother of Prince Augustus of Prussia (see lot 104). He is particularly known to have been a talented musician and composer. He was killed during the war against Napoleon, in the battle of Saalfeld Jena, in 1806.
