The Property of
MRS. BRUCE BOSSOM
The following eleven lots were discovered in the acting cupboard at Overbury Court, Gloucestershire. Many of the moccasins were worn by the Holland-Martins for charades and amateur theatricals, but the family no longer remember exactly how they were acquired. One forbear, Edward Thurston Holland (1836-1884), travelled widely in North America and records in his diaries a visit to the Niagara Falls in 1856. Other relatives may have had Canadian connections which have not yet been traced.
A PAIR OF EASTERN WOODLANDS QUILLED SKIN SMALL MOCCASINS, sewn at the centre and at the heel with quilled panel in blues, white and orange, the cuffs with quilled red and yellow trefoils on dark green silk, tin-cone fringe with inset red-dyed horsehair, three further tin-cones attached, damages, circa 1830
