A PAIR OF GEORGE III SILVER SOUP TUREENS, COVERS AND LINERS
maker's mark of Paul Storr, London, 1812

Each on four cast acanthus leaf scroll and pad feet and with leaf-capped reeded lion's mask scroll handles, the plain detachable liners with fluted handles, the domed covers with detachable leaf-capped reeded lion's mask and foliage handles, chased with bands of flutes and with shell, foliage and gadrooned borders, later engraved with coats-of-arms, crests and coronets, marked on tureens, covers, liners and cover handles - 15in. (38cm.) wide

The arms are those of de Vahl quartering Samuel impaling Samuel for Denis de Vahl-Samuel Esq. of Dublin, formerly of Rio di Janeiro. The canton in the first quarter bears a representation of the Badge of an Officer of The Order of the Rose, presented to Denis Samuel by His Imperial Majesty Don Pedro II of Portugal on 20 March 1844. The arms were granted to Samuel in 1854 when he assumed the additional surname of de Vahl by Royal Licence. (2)
