1976 MERCEDES 280 CE COUPE
Registration No. MCP 157P
Chassis No. 11407222101722
Engine No. T.B.A.
Gunmetal grey with beige cloth interior. Right hand drive.
The 280 Series of Mercedes motor cars began life in 1965 as a more powerful version of its predecessor, the 250. These cars retained the old fintail body style with an improved running gear. In 1968 Mercedes launched its 'new generation' of cars, a range change that affected just about every model, with new bodies and engines. The 280 received a more powerful six cylinder engine and a lower, crisper bodyline, along with changes to bring the car well within increasingly stringent American safety guidelines. 1972 saw the introduction to the 280 range of a low emission, twin cam, 2.8 litre six engine; the CE also benefitted from Bosch fuel injection, raising bhp to 185. This engine was later used in the Mercedes Super Saloon, the S Class, heralded as the closest reasonable approach to attainable perfection.
This stylish two door coupe with automatic transmission is an original example which will require some restoration before too long. It has been in daily use recently and has proved very reliable and has around six months MoT to run.
