Lot Essay

The Grecian reed-enriched table has elliptical ends, with hinged top compartments, relating to patterns for 'work', 'pouch' and 'games' tables issued around 1800 by Thomas Sheraton. Its Grecian black and ivory-disced handle was also fashionable at this period, and featured in the Grecian library created at Scampston Hall, Yorkshire around 1805 by the architect Thomas Leverton (d. 1825).
