Carl Steinbart (1852-1923) was a banker, an art dealer (together with Fritz Gurlitt) and a collector. Slevogt painted several portraits of Steinbart and his family which the Berlin collector had commissioned. Acquiring more than eighty works in total, Steinbart had the largest known collection of Slevogt paintings.
