2 1/4in. (56mm.) diam., gilt-metal mount with paste-set surround, the backing paper inscribed 'Portrait d'une jolie femme écrit par la Csse de Lebzeltern'

Lot Essay

Alphen was among the most talented miniaturists at the Viennese Court, but due to his early death, works by his hand are extremely rare. The present signed portrait seems to be the unique example to have appeared at auction.
