Numerous plates, including lithographs, hand-coloured lithographs, chromolithographs and photographs after J.Smit, J.G.Keulemans, J.Wolf and others by M. and N.Hanhart, Mintern Brothers and others. Variously bound in green half morocco, spines gilt, t.e.g. (vols. to 1908 and 5 index vols.) or contemporary green cloth, original wrappers bound-in, (spines of vols. for 1896-1908 faded).

A FINE RUN OF THIS IMPORTANT SCHOLARLY PUBLICATION. The society was founded in 1826 and the first Proceedings were published in 1831. Contributors included most of the greatest naturalists of their time: Charles Darwin, Thomas Huxley, John Gould, Charles Lucien Bonaparte, Richard Bowdler Sharpe and Lord Lilford inter alia. The plates, particularly for the period 1860-1900, are of a generally very high quality and include work by the most talented artists of the period. Anker 547; Nissen ZBI 4744. (136)
