Enamelled primarily in iron-red and gilt and enriched with green, blue and aubergine enamels, with a central coat-of-arms and coronet within a band of cell-pattern reserved with four floral cartouches in the well and pagodas, bamboo, flowering branches and the coat-of-arms repeated at the border, rim chip restored
9in. (23cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

The arms are those of J. A. Sichterman, who was Director of the V.O.C. (Dutch East India Company) in Bengal from 1734 - 1744. He took the service back with him to his house on the Ossenmarkt in Groningen, The Netherlands. Cf. J. A.
