TWO INDIAN MATCHLOCK GUNS

LATE 18TH CENTURY

The first with earlier 16-bore three-stage sighted barrel chiselled with panels of arabesques and foliage at the partly faceted breech, mid-section and flared muzzle, the last inlaid in brass with a petal design, with silver band at the muzzle and mid-section, incised hardwood full stock (some damage, fore-stock incomplete) retaining some painted decoration and with fluted wooden panel behind the barrel, engraved iron side-plates each with rear finial engraved as a palm, faceted match-holder and pricker, pierced foliate trigger, iron sling loops, and original iron ramrod; the second with 25-bore twist sighted barrel inlaid with brass lines at the muzzle and breech, hardwood full stock, veneered butt, iron mounts including rounded plates behind the barrel between ivory lines, and further plates on each side and behind the trigger, all finely watered with a chevron pattern, spirally turned match-holder, and pierced trigger
