With browned two-stage twist barrel, silver fore-sight, and signed octagonal then polygonal breech section, case-hardened patent breech with platinum line and platinum-lined touch-hole, case-hardened tang finely engraved with dogs and birds, signed finely engraved case-hardened flat bevelled lock with stepped tail, roller, rainproof pan, and pierced cock, finely figured walnut half-stock (minor repair in front of the lock), chequered grip, finely engraved blued iron mounts decorated with sporting scenes, that on the trigger-guard including a tablet engraved 'CX' (for 1810?), silver escutcheon, engraved white-metal fore-end cap, white-metal barrel-bolt escutcheons, original brass-mounted ramrod, and some original finish: in lined and fitted mahogany case with accessories including an earlier brass-mounted horn powder-flask, the lid with trade label of Thomas Peake, Plate Case, Knife Case & Cabinet Maker, 2 Windsor Court, Monkwell Street, Wood Street, Cheapside, London for 1816-1846, London proof marks
