The Crace decoration for the Courtroom was never acutally carried out but the building was redoracted in 1898, the date of Crace drawings, installed. The 1898 redecoration was supervised by George Bodley, the eminent church architect, and it was he who introduced the much darket late Victorian colouring.
The portrait seen above the fireplace in the Crace drawing is possibly that of the Rt. Hon. Russell Gurney, Q.C., M.P., Recorder of London, by W.W. OULESS, A.R.A. dated March 1875, which is still on display at the Fishmongers' Hall today as are the coats of arms around the walls also seen in the Crace design.
