INDENTColour Sergeant John Glenday born in Fife; joined the 50th. Foot, aged 19, 1840; served with the regiment in India, 1841-46 and took part in the defeat of the Mahrattas at Punniar, 29th. December, 1843; served during the First Sikh War and was present at the Battle of Ferozeshuhur, 21st. December, 1845 (wounded); transferred to the 61st. Foot, December 1846 and took part in the Second Sikh War, 1848-49; served under Lieutenant Colonel Bradshaw, C.B. with the Field Force in the Eusufzye Country, collecting revenue from the village of Sanghao, December 1849; took part in Sir Charles Napier's expedition to Kohat, February 1850; Sergeant 1853 and appointed Schoolmaster Sergeant the same year; attached to the 3rd. Stafford Militia as Paymaster Sergeant, 1861-62. Sergeant Glenday was discharged after 22 years service, 1862 and died 18th. January, 1893.
