INDENTSergeant William Hare, born in County Monaghan, Ireland; joined the 28th Regiment at Colchester, aged 19, 1811; served during the Peninsular War and took part in the battles of Vittoria (wounded in the left leg), Orthes and Toulouse (shown on M.G.S. Roll as entitled to Medal with three clasps); Corporal 1818; Sergeant 1825. Sergeant Hare was discharged at Chatham, after 23 years service 1835.

A total of four William IV Long Service and Good Conduct Medals awarded to the 1st. Battalion and two to the 2nd.
