Private Charles Arthurs, M.M. (1897-1947), born in Stow-on-the-Wold, enlisted, aged 18 years, 1915; was awarded the Military Medal for gallantry during the advance into Austria, 1st. November, 1918 (received gun shot wound in the left leg, 25.7.1916. and in the right arm, 8.5.1917.; Long Service Medal issued 1938). Private Arthurs died at Bourton-on-Water, 3rd April, 1947.
