The present bone plaque is stylistically very close to Spanish carving of the mid-11th Century. Goldschmidt (op.cit) illustrates a casket dated 1059 and a crucifix, circa 1063 (cat. nos. 81a and 100) which incorporate bone plaques very similar to the present lot.
