拍品专文

Tokuda is a third-generation potter working in Kutani style. Although traditional Kutani motifs are not present in his current work, Kutani- style colors are his primary design element. Brilliant patterns of rich eggplant, green and yellow merge and separate into abstract designs as on this vase, made in the 1990s.

In 1986 Tokuda was named a Bearer of Important Intangible Cultural Assets (a "Living National Treasure") by Ishikawa Prefecture for his work in Kutani ware, like his grandfather before him in 1953. He succeeded to the name Yasokichi III in 1988.
