Lot Essay

Munnings was the guest of Major Bouch, the Master of the Belvoir at Woolsthorpe near Grantham over the winter of 1919-20. The present work, together with a group of works painted during his stay, formed the basis of his exhibition at the Alpine Club Gallery in 1921

The present work depicts the hound 'Belvoir Wicklow' in the centre (he later became the famous stallion hound of the pack) with the archway to the old kennels and the feeding-house in the background.
