INDENTMajor William Edward Despard, entered the Royal Marines as Second Lieutenant, 1855; Lieutenant 1859, Captain 1867, Major 1874; served throught out the Ashantee war from 9th June, 1873 and was attached to the 42nd Highlanders as Transport Officer; was present at the battles of Amoaful, Ordahsu and the capture of Coomassie (Brevet of Major)
