Vitellius shown with head turned to sinister wearing a berried laurel-wreath and armour with winged mask arabesque, Titus shown with head turned to dexter wearing a berried laurel-wreath and armour, with a central flowerhead and a chimera on one shoulder, one bust incised on the socle VITE and with two tax marks from Berlin, various restorations and minor losses

Lot Essay

Angelo Minghetti (d. 1885), who founded his workshops in Bologna in 1849, exhibited his work at exhibitions held in Turin, Naples and Rome. Four related busts of Roman Emperors, also attributed to the céramiste Minghetti were acquired in 1885 by the South Kensington Museum, London (renamed the Victoria & Albert Museum)
