INDENTSergeant Charles Macaulay enlisted in the 8th. Hussars, 1847; he embarked with his regiment for the Crimea in the Echunga, 15th, May, 1854 and rode in the charge of the Light Brigade, 25th. October, 1854; he was one of the four men of his regiment who were selected for recommendation to Napoleon III to receive the Medaille Militaire, the citation stated ... "charged with the Light Brigade at Balaklava; also present in the ranks at the Alma and Inkerman, and served with the regiment throughout the War"; a Private at the time of the charge, he was advanced to Sergeant within the next two years; attended the first Balaklava Banquet, 25th. October, 1875; member of the Balaklava Commemoration Society, 1879, signed the Loyal Address, 1887 and was present at the annual dinners in 1892, 1893, 1895, 1897 and 1899
