Lot Essay

Private Ernest Arthur Weaver was killed in action at Gallipoli on 15.8.1915, while serving with the 1/4th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment. Having landed at 'C' Beach in Suvla Bay in early August, the Battalion went into action at Anafarta Sagir and afterwards at Sulajik, actions that resulted in casualties of 150 killed or wounded and a further 289 posted as missing. But Private Weaver appears to have survived these costly enterprises and probably fell victim to a sniper (See Westlake's British Regiments at Gallipoli).
