Private Bertram Ernest Peck was killed in action at Gallipoli on 7.8.1915, while serving with the 2nd Battalion, Royal Fusiliers. Having landed at 'X' Beach, Cape Helles on 25.4.1915, where it 'sealed the cliff and took the top without any immediate opposition', the Battalion came upon more serious Turkish positions a little way on, two Companies storming 'Hill 114' at the point of the bayonet. Subsequent participation in the First, Second and Third Battles of Krithia between late April and early June greatly reduced the Battalion's strength, although Private Peck appears to have come through all of these contests unscathed, only to be killed during the withdrawal to the Eski Line in early August.
