A Large Earthenware Bowl
Meiji Period, late 19th century. with gilt mark Shugyokuzan and with red enamel seal Shugyoku and with blue enamel Shimazu family crest
The deep bowl with barbed rim and set on a high flared foot and decorated in polychrome enamels and gilt over a clear crackled glaze and painted on the interior with four large fan-shaped roundels with flowers of the four seasons all on a ground of flowering vines and lozenges, the interior of the rim painted with scrolling vines on a blue ground, the exterior decorated with four shaped panels of chrysanthemums with scrolling vines on a blue ground, the rim and base with a band of floral lappets
