Lot Essay

The design of these armchairs appears to be based on a set of chairs in the collection of the Duke of Devonshire, Chatsworth House, Devonshire and which appear in watercolours by William Hunt and David Cox of the Withdrawing Room and the Long Gallery respectively at Hardwich Hall, Derbyshire in the first half of the 19th Century.
