Lot Essay

Malokholiya v kapote, or the history of kak as Krucheykh painted subtitles the work, which sets out to undermine the seriiousness of the great majority of what was, and is, considered great Russian literature. Kruchenykh so loathed symbolist and romatic Russian writing that in this work he selects various passages which he claims are rife with overt analy erotic references. The author mischievously plays with word order or changes the spelling of key words to create his intended effect quite brilliantly. Only 50 copies of Malokholiya kapote were published of which we have seen only one previously offered on the market (Christie's London, 2 Jyly 1987, lot 715)
