PERCUSSION SPORTING RIFLE with browned twist sighted barrels, one muti-groove rifled, the other rifled with eight grooves, engraved case-hardened breeches and tang, the latter with folding peep-sight, foliate engraved case-hardened locks (one hammer incomplete) fitted with nipple-guards, figured walnut half-stock with chequered grip, the butt with cheek-piece and carved in relief with a recumbant hind in a landscape, scrolled wooden trigger-guard, chequered patch-box cover carved with foliage and a scallop shell, engraved iron mounts including trigger-guard finial, and butt-plate with a heron, engraved silver escutcheon gilt against a blued ground with the crowned arms of Salm within mantling, sling swivels, set trigger for the right barrel, later ramrod, and much original finish, Liège proof mark, unsigned but almost certainly by Adam Rosen in Dyck, mid-19th Century
