AN UNUSUAL GERMAN LEFT-HAND LOCK FLINTLOCK FOWLING-PIECE with sighted five-stage barrel, octagonal breech struck with standing halberdier mark (Neue Støckel 551), brass saddle back-sight pierced on either side with a heart, rounded lock, figured walnut half-stock (fore-end cracked, butt with small piece missing) with cheek-piece on the right, carved with scrolling foliage in relief, iron mounts finely chiselled in relief with foliage and comprising trigger-guard, butt-plate with bulbous heel, scrolled side-plate terminating in monsters' heads, vacant crowned escutcheon framed with pierced foliate scrolls terminating in monsters' heads, and turned bulbous ramrod-pipes (ramrod missing), unsigned, circa 1680
