A RARE FRENCH HANGER with tapering single-edged blade (lightly pitted) back-edged towards the point and inlaid in brass with two flowers on each face, steel hilt comprising scallop-shaped shell with radiating recessed panels set with pierced silver scrolling foliage held by faceted steel studs between raised faceted panels, faceted quillon-block, short moulded rear quillon, slender moulded knuckle-guard with central faceted button, tortoise-shell covered octagonal grip (slight damage) decorated on one side with silver piqué work, and faceted ferrule and pommel-cap, the pommel-cap, quillon-block and knuckle-guard button decorated with silver en suite with the shell, early 18th Century
