A FINE NUREMBERG WHEEL-LOCK HOLSTER PISTOL with two-stage barrel swamped at the muzzle and struck at the breech with the initials and mark of Peter Danner together with the Nuremberg mark, and etched throughout its length with scrolls, strapwork, and foliage enclosing a profile head and a male standing figure in contemporary costume, the panels at the muzzle, breech and girdle heightened with gilding on a dotted ground, long tang extending to the pommel, etched and partly gilt, flat lock struck with copper-filled maker's mark ZS, a fleur-de-lys beneath (Neue Støckel 4836) and a further Nuremberg mark, the surface of the plate etched en suite with the barrel and gilt on a dotted ground around the border, pierced wheel-cover en suite, gilt safety-catch, flat cock engraved with two monster-heads, full stock finely inlaid with engraved staghorn panels and pellets, scrolls and foliage within engraved horn lines, inhabited by a mounted warrior and scenes of the chase opposite the lock, ball pommel bound with five embossed gilt-bronze straps, and with large gilt-brass lion's mask cap, iron trigger-guard, and horn-tipped wooden ramrod, late 16th Century
