INDENTColonel Frank Grieve entered the 46th. Regiment as Ensign, February, 1855, Lieutenant July and served in the Crimea from 3 September that year until 20 May, 1856 which included the siege and fall of Sebastopol; Captain 1868, Major 1881; in the Egyptian war 1882, he served with the 2nd. Bn. D.C.L.I and was present at the reconnaissance in force from Alexandria on 5 August when he commanded half of the Bn.; took part in the engagement at El Magfar, Tel-el-Mahuta and in the action at Kassasin, 28 August (Mentioned in Despatches); was also present at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (Brevet of Lieut. Colonel); served in the Nile Expedition, 1884-85 with the River Column under Major General Earl; was employed on the Staff of the lines of communications as Commandant at Kaboddie, 1885; commanded the 2nd. Bn. of his regiment, 1885-89
