[Earth's Magnetic-field demonstration globe]. late 19th century.
An unusual magnetic-field demonstration apparatus, the globe 4 ½ inches diameter (115mm), overall height 9 ½ inches (24cm). The sphere marked with meridians and parallels of latitude, the axis mounted on twin brass pillars with an arc engraved with a scale to 20 degrees and adjustable vernier. The apparatus mounted on a mahogany base stamped with makers initials S & A.D., with miniature compass and three levelling screws, each stamped W & T.S. improved.

A rare celestial planisphere, on a card base 14 inches square (36cm). The base printed with an hour circle, overlaid with two hand-coloured printed moveable discs,the lower marked with the stars and constellation names, the magnitude of the stars defined by varying sized metal heads, the rim graduated with calendar and constellation names, a second disc titled 'moveable planisphere' with meridian line pointer; together with a 12pp booklet A few words on Fixed Stars to my Young Friends, printed by Johnson and Co, published by Miss Wilson, 19 Howland St Fitzroy Square, the planisphere contained in original cloth-backed boards; and another celestial planishere and a Reeves astronomical compass in a leather case.
