Lot Essay

The label is recognisably that of the cabinet-maker James Mein Senior of Kelso who died in 1830. Several pieces supplied by him to the Duke of Roxburghe, Floors Castle, Kelso, were sold Christie's house sale, 17 September 1990, lots 133-149.
