A FRENCH OVER-AND-UNDER FLINTLOCK PISTOL with shortened three-stage barrels, flat bevelled back-action locks each signed in script and retaining some engraved decoration on the cock and tail (one top jaw and screw, and one cock retaining bolt replaced), figured walnut stock (chipped) carved with a spray of foliage behind the barrel tang, iron mounts including flattened pommel with short spurs and chiselled acanthus cap, small iron ramrod-pipe, and iron-capped ramrod, the trigger for the lower barrel forming the forward part of the bow of the trigger-guard (some wear and pitting), by Jacques Gourinal à Saumur, circa 1650
