Simple open back, legs joined by sinuous diagonal support, carved through with organic motives, the seat with original tooled leather with gilt details

Lot Essay

Guimard was engaged in the commissions for both the Maison Coilliot at Lille and the Castel Henriette at Sèvres between 1898 and 1900; chairs of virtually identical design to the present example for Maison Coillot were also incorporated in Guimard's interiors at the Castel Henriette (reproduced right).
