AN ORMOLU QUARTER-CHIMING CARTEL CLOCK
The circular glazed white enamel dial with Roman and Arabic chapters, day of the week, day of the month and months of the year inscribed 'Mercier A PARIS, within a drum case flanked on each side by acanthus and surmounted by a rounded arched plinth with four thyrsus finials and a lidded urn, with drapery suspending from either side of the dial, the lower tapering section with an open panel surrounded by a tied berried laurel, the sides with pierced foliate trellis, and tapering to scrolled acanthus, lacking pendulum, probably lacking screen to pendulum opening

A related cartel clock is in the Stuttgarter Landesmuseum and in the Hermitage, St. Petersburg, while a clock of the same model with a maiden's mask and lambrequin to the base but no husk-trails surrounding the pendulum reserve is illustrated in H. Ottomeyer, P. Pröschel, et. al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, p. 185, fig. 3.8.10.
